How Our Calculators Work
A plain-English explanation of how CalcBeacon calculators handle formulas, assumptions, examples, and limitations.
Calculation approach
CalcBeacon calculators use the values entered by the user and apply the formula or method explained on the relevant page. Where possible, the formula is shown in plain English and supported with a worked example.
Estimates and assumptions
Some tools produce exact arithmetic results, such as percentages or date differences. Other tools produce planning estimates, such as profit, pay, finance, health, and marketplace fee calculations. Estimate pages should clearly state the assumptions and limits.
Why results may differ elsewhere
Results can differ from official statements, payroll systems, lenders, schools, marketplaces, or health providers because those organisations may use their own rounding, rules, fee schedules, tax settings, or eligibility criteria.
Best way to use the tools
- Check that units match the calculator labels.
- Use realistic values rather than best-case numbers.
- Read the formula and example before making decisions.
- For important decisions, confirm the result with a qualified professional or official source.
